Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about applying to the Teachers Recruitment Portal.
Eligibility

No. Applying is completely free of charge. There is no application fee, no shortlisting fee and no payment of any kind at any stage of this exercise.

No agent, cyber café, office or individual is authorised to collect money on behalf of the Ministry, and nobody can influence the outcome on your behalf. If anyone asks you for money in connection with this recruitment, do not pay — report it through the Help Desk on your dashboard.

Graduate teachers seeking appointment into secondary schools and colleges in Delta State, who hold one of the qualifications listed for the subject area they are applying for.

The subject areas and their required qualifications are listed on the home page. You must apply for a subject area your qualification matches — an application in a subject you are not qualified to teach will not be shortlisted.

You must have been 35 years of age or below as at the date the advertisement was published.

You enter your date of birth on the first step of the form, and the Ministry assesses eligibility from that date as part of shortlisting.

Registration or induction with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is not a requirement, but it is an added advantage.

If you are registered, enter your TRCN number on the academic step. Leave it blank if you are not — it will not prevent you from applying.

Successful candidates are expected to serve in rural or riverine schools for at least five years in the first instance.

This is stated plainly here and on the home page so that nobody is taken by surprise after appointment. Only candidates who are prepared to serve in such locations are advised to apply.

Applying

Yes. Your National Identification Number is entered on the form and verified against the national database. Enter it exactly as it appears on your slip.

If verification does not succeed, check the digits first — a single wrong digit is the commonest cause. If it still fails, raise a ticket on the Help Desk rather than creating a second application.

Yes. The form is in seven steps and your work is saved every time you move to the next step. You can close the browser and sign in later to carry on from where you stopped.

Nothing reaches the Ministry until you complete the final review step and press Submit. An application still in progress when the portal closes has not been submitted.

Your certificates for the qualifications you have entered, your NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, your certificate of origin, your NIN slip, and a recent passport photograph.

Photographs of a document are accepted as well as scans — a clear picture taken in good light is sufficient if you have no scanner. Large images are reduced automatically, so you do not need to resize anything. Make sure the whole document is in frame and readable; a document that cannot be read may be treated as not supplied.

Use the Forgot password link on the sign-in page. You will be asked for your application number and the last four digits of the phone number you registered with, and you can then set a new password yourself.

You do not need to contact anyone and no code is sent to you. If you no longer have access to that phone number, raise it on the Help Desk.

Usually yes, until the portal closes. Open your application from the dashboard, make the change and submit again — your original submission date is kept.

The Ministry can lock applications at any point, and does so once the exercise closes. If your application is locked, the form opens in read-only mode and the Submit button is not shown.

After you apply

By SMS to the number you registered with, and on your dashboard. Both are updated at the same time.

Keep that number active for the whole exercise — it is also your username for signing in. If you change it, update your application before the portal closes.

Shortlisted candidates sit a computer-based test at a centre assigned to them. Your date, reporting time, centre and seat number appear on your dashboard once scheduling is complete.

Print your admit card from the Letters and documents page and bring it with a valid photo ID. The card carries a QR code the centre can scan to verify it.

Because scheduling and release are two separate steps. Details appear as soon as you are scheduled, but the admit card is only released when the Ministry confirms the timetable is final.

This is deliberate: timetables are usually corrected once or twice, and a card printed against a draft would send you to the wrong centre. You will be notified when cards are released.

Only candidates who are successful at the computer-based test are invited to an oral interview and microteaching practicum. Your invitation appears on your dashboard and is sent by SMS.

Bring the originals of every document you uploaded. Candidates who cannot produce originals may be stood down.

Yes. Once submitted, use Print application form on your dashboard. It opens a printable copy you can save as a PDF.

It carries a QR code the Ministry can scan to confirm the document came from this portal. Keep a copy.

Help and your information

Raise a ticket on the Help Desk from your dashboard. Describe the problem, attach a screenshot or photograph if it helps, and the Ministry will reply on the same ticket.

You will see the reply on your dashboard, and everything stays in one thread so nothing is lost between messages.

Yes. There is a section on the form where you can record a disability and any assistance you would need at the test or interview centre.

Completing it does not affect how your application is assessed — it is there so the Ministry can make arrangements in advance.

Your details are held by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education for the purposes of this recruitment exercise only, and are not sold or shared for marketing.

The printed forms carry a verification code rather than your personal details, so a document can be checked without exposing your medical information, address or next of kin. See the Privacy notice for more.

On the News and updates page, and on your dashboard once you have an account. The recruitment timeline on the home page shows which phase the exercise has reached.

Announcements that affect deadlines are also sent by SMS.
